Alex Cabrera is new to Shadow Wood, Pennsylvania. Not that he minded moving from the Sunshine State when there's nothing there to hold him down. Not even the clingy ex-boyfriend who won't stop calling him repeatedly throughout the day.

Shadow Wood, book one of the Shadow Wood Chronicles, is a young adult, paranormal/suspense novel with a hint of romance by Dee Jordan and Konstantine Alexandre.
This is a slow-building suspense novel whose action accelerates from 0 to 60 in the last act; there is a very slow burn flirtation which hints at some realization in the next book.
Alex Xander our protagonist is a high school student who has just moved from Florida to Pennsylvania with his family. He’s eager to put his past and ex-boyfriend behind him and get off to the right start at Shadow Wood Academy.
Alex seems a very smart, mature, and conscientious young man and very likeable. he’s mature without seeming smug with it and he’s self-conscious and insecure which makes him more affable.
The students and staff at Shadow Wood seem to think so. His new classmates seem to be quite taken with him. He makes friends right away with the smart, quirky girl Ellie. Even the Big Men on Campus show an interest immediately, which is a little overwhelming for Alex as these four are very attractive and charismatic. Alex is attracted to each of them right away but is drawn to a dark, broody Mason literally getting woozy the first time he speaks to him.
The story details Alex’s movements through his first week of school as the new boy. There is more to Shadow Wood and its students then meets the eye. The suspense builds but might get lost in the day-to-day of Alex’s week. Some of the mysterious elements are quite subtle which get swallowed up in Alex’s day-to-day high school drama.
A series of odd things occur before he even steps foot in school and Alex though a very observant and bright boy is suspicious of some things, but misses others, and yet doesn’t act on those suspicions. In fact, Alex generally goes with the flow even when that flow is murky or turbulent. It might be easier to overlook especially when Alex’s interactions with the popular boys become baffling and increasingly intense. Those boys become key to the strange happenings around Alex. As he becomes closer to them, he is also plunged in greater mystery.
Shadow Woods is a promising start to a YA series. It drops a lot of bread crumbs, and there’s a lot of different places for this story to go in future books. The pacing might be a little slow in the beginning. The book begins with some detailed description of Alex’s new environs and some backstory on this family. The first days are followed very closely and then everything moves into overdrive. It’s a slow-burning suspense.
A wonderful view on life through the eyes of.... a seventeen year old boy. I loved how he saw his surroundings and explain them, how he expressed his doubts, concerns and feelings. How he express his feelings, towards his friends and especially towards Mason.
“Life as it were, was kinda blissful”

Living in a new town, new school and new faces... he found himself surrounded by four popular guys. They seem to know things and one of them made Alex’s heart stutter and his feet stumble. They all act somewhat unexpected... they seem to share something secret.
“Conundrum”
At times I had the strong feeling to comfort Alex... he was.... different... adorable, honest, vulnerable and conflicted.
At diner, talking about family stories that goes centuries back, was the point where some things began to dawn on me. All the, almost negligible, mysterious behavior wasn’t something to ignore, and thank goodness I didn’t.
A comfortable steady, consistent written story. Appealing from first to last page. Amazingly detailed parts and all captivating. Every topic nicely woven into the other. The slow burn tension and attraction between Mason and Alex was strong palpable. The open mind of Petr about his own sexuality was just heartwarming. All friends are very lovable and they all have their own specifications... I hope to get to know every one in the next installment.
The buildup of the story was excellent done. Like at first sight a nice boy, coming from a kind multiracial family, who goes to school, meet new friends... into something MAJOR. The last chapter reveals a lot and makes you crave...!
A young adult fantasy story with the promise of more!

I voluntarily received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Having said that I was hooked from chapter one and would buy the book in a heartbeat. The storyline intrigued me but this is totally different than my normal book choices. Alex is thrust into an already stressful situation with moving to a new town and school. Enter four male friends and a girl in his class and strange things start happening. Alex has strange dreams and feelings plus he is drawn to Mason who doesn't seem to be into him. Mysterious family members, strange events and strangers on the door step lead Alex to some amazing but scary discoveries.
this to any one If you like Charmed or the Coven this is a book for you I love 💘
